Before the Emmy-winning television series Monk became known worldwide for its San Francisco setting, its earliest creative development took place in Suite 3 at Bank Street Centre in downtown Summit. The first three episodes of Season 1—including the pilot written by series creator Andy Breckman—were developed in the building. Although filming occurred elsewhere, the distinctive character of detective Adrian Monk was first shaped in offices at 18 Bank Street.
